Each summer since 2006 the Cathaoirleach Awards Event is held in Belvedere House and Gardens. The members of Westmeath County Council initiated the Cathaoirleach Award Event in 2006 in order to celebrate the enormous amount of volunteerism in Westmeath. In December 2016 Minister Creed announced funding of €2460500 to Animal Welfare Organisations of which Westmeath SPCA received €10,000. Donations make up the rest of the income.
